Synopsis
The novel "Swan" by Ana Stojanoska is a complex, narrative creation focused on a play with the plot of the famous ballet "Swan Lake" by Tchaikovsky. Avoiding predictable plot structures, the author creates a complex picture of the lives of two young artists and their mothers. The author's game is seen in the fact that one character does not have a gender determination until the first fifty pages, which shows her permanent need to experiment with literature and stretch the boundaries of literary genres. The novel is divided into several chapters: "One Winter Night" which portrays the main characters in the novel, in short, emotionally explosive chapters, "Lara Tells", where the story from "Swan Lake" is transmitted, "Testament", in which a reminiscence is made of the events of the past, more precisely of the life of the two mothers, "Swan", where the "real" story begins and the second main character and their interrelationship are revealed, "Children", in which chapter their early years are shown, "Birthday" or the chapter in which the whole complex relationship of interpersonal relations opens and "Piano Concerto and Passion", in which both passion and emotions and arts are combined in one. "Swan" is the story of a love full of passion, in which youthful strength and artistic urge, ballet, music, painting and literature are mixed. A contemporary saga about what it's like to love unreservedly and unconditionally, simultaneously fighting the dark side and shining a bright light on it, where the "white" and "black" swan somehow mixed up the roles. That it is a question of many inner emotions, strong expressions and a vivid description of certain life situations, are shown by both dedications at the beginning and end of the novel, as well as the very end of the novel in which a black feather is left to close the content of the novel.
The Macedonian literary practice does not know such a work in which love and passion speak without inhibitions given by taboos, forbidden topics or social standards.
