
Biography
Stefan Markovski is a Macedonian writer, poet, screenwriter, and philosopher, author of novels, short story collections, poetry, and academic books, MA in Screenwriting at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts (FDU) in Skopje.
Markovski is the winner of several international and domestic awards and recognitions for his works. Segments of his work have been published in several languages, including: English, Italian, Spanish, Chinese, Russian, Arabic, Polish, Romanian, Estonian, Slovenian, Croatian, Serbian, Bulgarian, Celtic, Basque, and others.
He is the chief and responsible editor of the oldest Macedonian literary magazine "Sovremnost" and is the editor of the review published by WAM"Stožer", as well as of the poetry collections "Metricki Karvan". He was an editor and publisher of books by contemporary Macedonian authors.
Some of his works have been translated into foreign languages and the English translations of his novels “The Bumblebee Anatomy”, “Letters of Heresy”, his collection of short stories “Faustus Runs the Plebeian Circle” and the poetry collection “Promised Land” have achieved notable success on Amazon.com.
He participated in international residencies, literary festivals and events, and his works are included in international literary anthologies and selections.
Markovski is a member of the Writer's Association of Macedonia, the Macedonian Center of the International Theater Institute, the European platform "Versopolis" and other international organizations.
He holds the position of director of the "Goce Delčev" Library in Gevgelija.
Awarded with:
- "Petre M." Award Andreevski" for the novel "One-way" from the "Ramkovski" Foundation (2009);
– "Literary Pen" award from the Croatian Literary Society (CLS) for the best book out of the publications of the HKD for the collection of short stories "Death Comes With a Smile" (2017);
- Award "Beli Mugri" from the House of Culture "Kocho Racin" - Skopje for a collection of poems by an author under the age of 35 (2016);
- Award "Holiday of Linden Trees" from the Writer's Association of Macedonia for the best poem written on the occasion of the event of the same name (2022);
– "Literary Circle" Award of the Bitola Literary Circle for the short story collection "Faust Runs the Plebeian Circle" (2020);
"Krste Chachanski" Award of KC "Bran" and "Brananujanje" - Struga, for the collection of short stories "Death Comes With a Smile" (2017);
– "Script Fest" for a script for a feature film (2022);
– "Goran Bujić" international award for journalists-writers of the Croatian Literary Society (2019);
– Award "7 November" of the Municipality of Gevgelija for achievements in culture and contribution to the cultural affirmation of Gevgelija (2014);
- "Grand Prix" at the poetry festival "Literary Sparks" - Gostivar (2015);
"Macedonian Literary Avangard" for the short story collection "The Seller of Wind and Fog and Other Stories" (2015)
